In this PvP guide I will show you the ropes for mage templates, tips, hints and tricks (with a tad on dexxers later).

Firstly I will just list my current template (Scribe mage) and it's benefits, I will use this template as a guide for the other basic templates I list below.

120 Evaluating Intelligence (necessary with scribe)

+110 Magery
120 Weapon skill.. fenceing or swords are the best options. (100% necessary)
100+ Meditation (Some people choose to not use med because their suits have alot of mana regen and can fit in different skills.)
115+ resist (100% necessary, nothing better than resisting 5 poisons in a row)
100 Inscription (With 120 eval and max spell damage your spells will be doing a lot of damage)

And you will usually have leftover points which I (not sure about others) put into focus for the stamina regen and bonus mana regen.

Explosion & Magic Arrow:

Perhaps the most underrated and best spells in game. The casting speed is virtually none, and does roughly 8-10 damage with inscription, plus the delay is great for disrupting.

Fireball, Poison, Bleed, & Llightning:

Only when they are bled and poisoned, as its casting time is far too long if they aren't busy healing.

Stick to low casting and low damage spells, as they will do a lot more damage per second and are a lot easier to cast successfuly than longer casting spells.

Ebolt! I cannot stress this enough, It is perhaps the most useless spell in game, most pvpers are elfs and as it deals energy damage they will usually have 75 energy or 65 when cursed. Avoid flamestrike unless you are ganking someone or they are VERY busy curing/healing.

CURSE!! CURSE!! Your very first spell should be curse, this spell not only lowers their stats but lowers resistances = MORE damage added onto your current spells. Weaken is great for disrupting, and harm is a very situational spell, If they are extremely close on low health, harm away.

Timing is the key to healing, if your under fire from long casting spells and you feel you have enough time for a Greater Heal, go for it. If your under fire from low casting spells, mini heal. Always use normal cure except when Deadly Poisoned, in that case either use a greater cure potion or arch cure.

One handed weapon, no shield. Basically same as above, except replace meditation for parry, and inscription for bushido.

Main damage source will be precasting a flamestrike or explosion, nervestrike then flamestrike, although this will not kill someone with pots or an excellent player. It will usually drop the odd random player you see at Brit Moon Gate in Fel.

confidence is extremely good for healing on the run and when fighting. If you choose to grab parry, you should always have evasion up.

*NOTE* Since the evasion nerf, you need 80 dex, so although I don’t recommend using this template anymore, to reach the 80 dex you put enhance potions on and use an agility potion.

Exactly the same as the listed template, except get 80 poisoning instead of inscription, and put the rest into focus (or chivalry for remove curse)

Main source of damage is bleeding, then deadly poison (of course with something precast) and then hitting them with a low casting time, low damage spell.

Downsides to this template is greater cure potions will effectively remove 80 of your skill points.

*NOTE* Your weapon skill + poisoning and your magery + poisoning must = 200 skill points in total
For Example:
If you have 80 poisoning, you will need 120 magery and 120 swords.
If you have 85 poisoning, you will need 115 magery and 115 swords.

Same as listed, but replace inscription and your leftover points into 120 ninjitsu (not even worth getting if you dont have 120 ninja)

Y our main source of damage will be deathstrike and then burst damage spells like precasting flamestrike. Then while they are deathstriked, if they choose not to move harm spam, if they choose to run try get off a lightning/magic arrow combo.

Not very effective since they nerfed tracking but still useful.

A very tuff template to fit in. You basically need swords of prosperity or staff of the magi, unless you don’t want very high spirit speak. Drop the weapon skill in the listed template for 120 spirit speak. Raise magery to 120 and drop inscription + some left over points for 105 necro.

Main damage will be corpse skin and strangle (those two spells should be on all the time), once they are corpse skinned and strangled you should concentrate your spells on fire and poison (Explosion, Fireball, Flamestrike, Magic Arrow and Poison Strike).

Always try and keep your opponent pain striked, as the stamina loss is very handy and the damage isn't too bad at all.

Your skills should be the listed template except for inscription and meditation, which you should put into 105 necro and 120 spirit speak (105 necro is a MUST, never failing strangle is extremely important).

With combos you want to keep them strangled CONSTANTLY, corpse skinning them is important too (make sure they are cursed aswell, don’t just rely on corpse) your combos should include (somewhat in this order too) strangle, curse, explode poison (bleed hit them in between casting) magic arrow/fireballing with corpse somewhere in there.

Poison strike is also a brilliant spell for 1v1s as its damage is very high for its speed but if someone has high poison it is almost useless.

There is many more templates which you can use, basically all of them are combinations of the ones I listed.

Ethy mounts are always helpful, if you don't have one I recommend buying a charger of the fallen. Greater cure, refresh and heal potions can be great but are frowned upon by most pvpers in one on one fights as they are seen as a "crutch", the same can be said about remove curse apples.

Your suit should look like this:
8-12 mana regen
35-40 lower mana cost
30+ hit chance (for necro mages without a wep skill, this isn't required)
35+ defence chance
60's across the board with 70 physical if your an elf go for 75 energy.
2/5 faster casting at an absolute minimum, anything else and you will be getting stomped on.

100% lower reagent cost (In my opinion it is a must have for necro's), + hit point increase (VERY useful for obvious reasons) + int/mana increase, + stamina regen, great against necro's.

For anything other than an evasion mage your stats should look like:
120 health
160 mana
10-20 dex
Evasion mages Should be aiming for 80 dex with abit less health and mana.

45 hit chance (can be around 35)
45 defence chance (needs to be 40)
40 lower mana cost (can be 35)
100 damage inc (can be around 80)
6 mana regen (not a necessity but is helpful)
60 of each resist (this one is something that is completely necessary).

Fey leggings (You can use human version but they cost more)
Totem of the void (or primer on arms talisman)
Mace and shield glasses or Spirit of the totem (very expensive, if you don't have them use ancient samurai helmet)
Rune beetle carapeace as your tunic
stormgrip or gloves of the pugilist.

Hit chance, defence chance and damage inc (bonuses would be dex and resists).

Warfork (Disarm spam with bleed on them)
Kyrss (good if your a dper)
Cleaver (good if your a dper)
B utcher knife (good if your a dper)
The mods on the weapon your after would be a Hit spell above 30, Hit lower defense above 30 Swing speed above 20 and Hit chance.

Your stats on a pure dexxer should be:
125 strength
30 mana (if you have necromancy/ninja/bushido ect it should be higher)
120 dex... if you have eaten a +25 stat scroll.

As for templates, I am not very experienced on a dexxer but I will give you some ideas for PvP templates (if you want to be very hard to kill go with one of the below).

120 Swords

105 Necromancy

120 Spirit Speak

120 Ninjitsu
115+ resist (100% necessary, nothing better than resisting 5 poisons in a row)

80-85 poisoning
, with the remaining points in chiv
You want to heal with spirit speak and get 4/6 for quick chiv healing. Mana is quite hard on these kinds of characters.

120 Swords

120 Bushido

120 Tactics

120 Anatomy

120 Parrying

90 Healing

115 Resist
I know this is above the cap but go with tactics for extra block chance or get healing or get both and have no resist. Any two handed weapons are good for extra block chance or one handed weapon with no shield is what your after.

Now that you have the information in order to create your new PVP character, there is only one thing left to say....
